Cookies Tips for Mystery Bubbles - Level 146 - The mystery bubbles can be good or bad. When you hit one they can turn into: Extra bubbles for cauldron or to drop, rainbow bubble, black solid bubble, bomb, or virus.

So If you're going to hit one try to make sure you'll be able to drop it fairly quickly after just in case it's a bomb. If you don't have bubbles of the colour you need, hitting a mystery will count as hitting a group of 3 bubbles. So you see they can be very useful if used carefully.
